The object has to exist only so that the photograph can be taken. Beyond this, its relevance is negligible: a pretext for the gesture. The camera is not a mere witness; it's a technology of the self, a mediating extension allowing guidance. Through interventions of extraction and alteration, the images happen. While they direct the viewer towards something in that world that they construct, they are the outcome of an interplay that defies clear fixation. The object being photographed is only a carrier.
